Resided in: Hillsboro, Illinois

Alvin Lewis Massey, 87, of Hillsboro, Illinois, passed away on September 18, 2024, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Hillsboro, Illinois.

Lewis was born May 31,1937, in Highland, Illinois to Alvin and Iva (Zeller) Massey. He married Myrtle Marie Kendall on February 14, 1987, in Sorento, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2019.

When Lewis was 17, he set out to earn his GED so that he would be able to enlist in the United States Air Force. After serving his time, Lewis was discharged honorably from the Air Force and in 1961, began his 30-year career as a machinist with the McDonnell Douglas Corporation, later known as Boeing. Once Lewis retired from the aerospace industry, he was able to fully pursue a passion he had had since childhood, which was farming and raising pigs. He really enjoyed spending time outside with his pigs, so much so that he earned the nickname Papa Piggy from his grandchildren.

He was a generous, kind, man and it was common practice for him to give his last to someone else in need. Although he had a serious side and always expected the best behavior from his children, you would be hard pressed to find a more giving and selfless man. Woodworking was something that Lewis loved to do, creating many pieces, such as bookshelves, benches, and a toy box for his children and grandchildren, throughout the years. Being a lifelong member of Sorento Assembly of God, Lewis was involved with leading the boys’ group, the Royal Rangers, as well as serving as the Sunday School superintendent. Later in his life, Lewis attended the Assembly of God in Coffeen, Illinois.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Alvin & Iva, wife Marie, sister Cleda Morrow, step-daughter Tammy Cressy, and her husband Marty Cressy.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Danielle) Massey of Staunton, Illinois; daughters, Shari (Tim) Adair of Highland, Illinois, and Ruth (Roger) Reincke of Irving, Illinois; stepchildren, Ron (Diane) Seabaugh of Broomfield, Colorado, Jeff Seabaugh of Walshville, Illinois; grandchildren, Mark (Robyn) Massey of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Erin (Jared) Sutton of Godfrey, Illinois, Megan (Jacob) West of Gillespie, Illinois, Brandon (Danielle) Adair of Edwardsville, Illinois, Brittani (Tyler) Robertson of Pekin, Illinois, Rachel Crouse of Hillsdale, Illinois, Dale (Alyssa) Reincke of Greensburg, Indiana, and Heather (Dustin) Greenwood of Hillsboro, Illinois; siblings Harold Massey of Bunker Hill, Illinois and Stella Kirk of Fairborn, Ohio; step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

  1. My sympathies to all the family and especially to Georgia who I attended grade school with. Hold on to the memories. ❤️

    • Lots and lots of Prayers to the family and to my dear friend Ruth. Lou was roomies with my dad Ron and I know in their own way they was great friends. I loved walking the halls with Lou and his sweet personality. His love shined through no words needed. Heaven has a special walking track just for him I’m sure. Love ya Ruth. Smile today because he is whole again and happier than ever. 💜💜
