David C. Denson

David Claude Denson, 73, passed away on April 16, 2026, unexpectedly at his home. He was born on November 2, 1952, to Harold Ray and Mary Ellen Denson in Alton, IL. He married Melodie Yvonne Shive in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 11, 1988.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his maternal grandparents, Myron and Dorthea Starbuck, who raised him. He was also preceded by his brother Myron Hanley, and his sisters Cindy Tino and Dolly Squires.

He is survived by his wife; his son Aaron (Libby) Denson; grandsons, Jackson and Christopher; and his daughter Laura (J. D.) Richardson; grandson, Jimi. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Bradshaw, Mary Ellen “Cissy” Gibbs, Barbara Little, and his sister-in-law, Renee Collins.

Dave graduated from Wood River High School in 1970. He also earned a degree from Gem City Jeweler’s College in Quincy, IL.

During his life, Dave worked for Olin Corporation, Holiday Shores, R. P. Lumber, and RTS Packing in Litchfield, IL.

Dave enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, and collecting artifacts and antiques. He could repair almost anything. He was a loving husband and father, and especially loved playing with his grandsons. He was known to be generous, kind, and helpful, and will be missed by his many friends.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 pm., at the Sorento Community Building, 105 E. Taylor Street, Sorento, IL 62086, followed by a potluck meal. Meat, desserts, and drinks will be provided. Bring a story to share, if you feel inclined.
