Debra Lynn Jett, 72, of Sorento, Illinois, passed away May 16th, 2026, at Hillsboro Health in Hillsboro, Illinois. She was born October 1 st, 1953, in Litchfield, Illinois to Robert Leroy and Norma Lydia Anita (nee Schweppe) Turner. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 27th, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Assalley Funeral Home, 118 E. College Avenue, Greenville, Illinois.
Debra was raised in Sorento and graduated in 1971 from Greenville High School. In her late 20’s Debra moved to Lichfield and later attended Schneider National Training Academy. Throughout the years, she held many jobs, including working at Echlin in Litchfield, driving a truck, waitressing, and providing home health care.
She enjoyed life to the fullest and had many interests and talents. She bowled in a league and proudly sported her own left-handed bowling ball. She was also involved in a women’s pool league that went off to win first place at nationals. An avid reader, she could often be found with a good book in her hand. She was a lifelong member of the Sorento Women’s Auxiliary and loved spending time crafting, making jewelry, crocheting, woodworking, and baking. Debra was a true foodie who enjoyed sharing snacks and treats from her “stash” with her great-grandson.
More than anything Debra loved her family. She was an amazing mom, grammie, great grammie, who treasured every moment spent with those she loved. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Kind-hearted and free-spirited, Debra loved to talk, enjoy good food and relax with a cigarette.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Robert & Norma; daughter, Cassandra ‘Cissy’; brother, Gary Turner; sisters-in-law, Mary Turner and Nina Turner.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonya Jett of Sorento, Illinois; granddaughter, Cleo Jett of Sorento, Illinois; great-grandson, Xavier Meyer; siblings, Keith Turner, Penny Casey, Kathy (Chris) Atchison, Mary ‘Janie’ (Gary) Sugg, and Joel Turner.
