Charles David Shaffer died Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Memorial Hospital, in Springfield, Illinois. Charles was born in Alton, Illinois on August 31, 1953, to parents Glen “Guy” Shaffer and Mabel Gertrude Price.
Charles grew up in Glen Carbon, Illinois. He attended Ramsey High School and Western Illinois University where he earned an MBA. He worked for NTN Bower as a Management Information Systems manager in Macomb, Illinois.
Charles married Karen Sue Brown on January 8, 1978, and together they lived in Ramsey, Astoria, and most recently in Panama, Illinois.
His many interests included technology, science, and keeping up with current events. He also had a deep love of music and was a guitarist and singer in the band, IZZI. It was usual to see him sitting on the couch playing and singing some of his favorite songs, like Blackbird by the Beatles. He enjoyed shooting pool and spending time with his two Great Pyrenees dogs, Brody and Chloe.
Preceding him in death are his parents and siblings.
Surviving Charles are his wife, Karen, two sons, Adam and Andrew (Scott) Shaffer, and
several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family has entrusted Assalley Funeral Home in Greenville with the arrangements.

Charlie and I were roommates at SIU-Edwardville. We even visited his parents in Ramsey for the weekend. I’m to old to remember all the times we had but watched him play in a hole in the war bar in Edwardsville. He loved playing ❤️🎶💪🏾
I met Charley at Mississippi Culture brewery in Staunton and enjoyed talking music and life in the old days in Glen Carbon with him numerous times. [ maybe a little politics also] Will certainly miss those conversations over a cold drink. So sorry for your loss. Larry Nealy
