Ray "Peg" Pence

Ray “Peg” Pence, 82, of Litchfield, IL, passed away at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Heritage Health: Therapy & Senior Care in Litchfield, IL.

Ray was born January 21, 1936 in Litchfield, IL, the son of Clyde and Della (Williams) Pence.  He married Anna Elizabeth Jarman on May 30, 1958 at the Litchfield Christian Church.

Ray proudly served his country in the United State Navy for over twenty years, eventually retiring after his service.  He then worked for many years for Roller Derby, where he would retire.  Ray earned an associate’s degree from Lincoln Land Community College, and attended Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Raymond, IL.  He loved the outdoors, was an avid bird watcher, and found great joy in feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clyde, Harold, Dale, Russell, John, Ralph, and George “Tom” Pence; and sisters, Jane Pence and Delores Benning.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Elizabeth Pence of Litchfield, IL; sons, Dennis (wife, Anita) Pence of Litchfield, IL, David Gene (wife, Allison) Pence of Springfield, IL, and Clyde (wife, Kimmi) Pence of Litchfield, IL; daughter, Raygena (husband, Matthew) Venardi of Rancho Palos Verde, CA; grandchildren, Andrew, Stephen, Anthony, and Dominic Venardi, Mariana (husband, Tad) Pence-Amos, and Tyler, Cara, Sarah, and Melanie Pence; brothers, Robert and James Pence; sisters, Gloria Herr, Judy Culberson, and Shirley Oller; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 201 S. Main St., Sorento, IL 62086, with Pastor Jon Wagahoff officiant.

Interment will follow the ceremony at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, IL, where military honors will be provided by the Department of Defense.
