Betty J. Steele, 77, of Taylorville died at 8:50 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

She was born October 31, 1931, in Palmer, the daughter of Arlie "Nick" and Theresa "Teddy" Q. Stephens. She married Glen "Buzz" Steele on August 18, 1950, in Taylorville. She retired as a CNA at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church, Palmer.

Surviving are her sons: Stephen (wife Jan) Steele of Assumption and Chris Steele of Kincaid; daughters: Debbie (husband Tom) DeFrates of Rochester, Jamie (husband Brian) Mumm of Monticello and Alicia (husband John) Witter of Taylorville; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Linda (husband Jim) Pope of Edinburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Brandon Steele.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, in Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home, Taylorville, with Rev. Linda Vonck officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery, Palmer.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 13, in the funeral home.
