Nicholas Patrick DeBrun, age 14, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL.

Nicholas was born on August 18, 2009 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Steve and Mellisa (Brown) DeBrun. Nicholas attended St. Louis Catholic School in Nokomis, IL, from 4th grade through 7th grade, and he recently completed his 9th grade year at Morrisonville High School (Class of 2027).

Nicholas was a friendly and energetic, outgoing and compassionate, faithful, and creative person. His faith was important to him, and he frequently served as an Altar Server at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, IL.

Nicholas’ interests included fishing, hunting, camping, and the great outdoors at large. He was gifted with good marksmanship. He enjoyed engaging with mechanical engines–earning the moniker of being a “tinkerer”–, traveling and photography. Notable experiences for Nicholas included vacationing (and fly fishing) in North Carolina.

Ambitious in his youth, he was already employed. He worked at a mowing service with his brother, Nathaniel, as well as for a local tree trimming company. A hard-working, determined individual, he earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do (after six years of study), and he was active in his school’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization.

Nicholas is survived by his parents, Steve and Mellisa DeBrun of Morrisonville, IL; brother, Nathaniel DeBrun, at home; grandparents, Leon and Marilyn DeBrun of Morrisonville, IL, Thomas and Jane Brown of Wauconda, IL; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
