Glen was born on May 15, 1942, in Mills Township, Bond County, Illinois, the son of Charles Homer and Nellie Irene (Harlan) McGuire. He first married, and later divorced, Rebecca Sue Worstel and that union produced two children, Glen Shannon McGuire and Gwendolyn Sue McGuire. His second marriage was to Edna May (Durr) Etcheson, in Smithboro, Illinois, until the time of her death.

He lived a fun and very social life. He enjoyed sharing good times with his friends, meeting people and striking up conversations. He was kindhearted and the nicest guy you would ever want to meet.

After graduating from Greenville High School, he worked his first job, as a maintenance road worker for Mills Township for a few years, then for Elmira Manor in Greenville, as a maintenance worker for over 30 years, and Mallinckrodt (the old Pet Milk) for over 40 years, also as a general maintenance worker and as a janitorial custodian, from which he retired. For many years, he worked at Almira and Mallinckrodt simultaneously.

He was an avid motorcycle rider who enjoyed tooling around on his blue spider motorcycle. He enjoyed attending dirt track races with his brother, doing word puzzles, collecting die cast NASCARs, hunting in the woods for mushrooms, and walking around town.

Preceding Glen in death are his parents, both wives, a daughter, Gwendolyn Sue McGuire, a brother, Dean McGuire, and a stepdaughter, Carol Bourgeois.

Guestbook

  1. Glen sure was a nice man. He always took good care of us lab girls back in the day. We always could on clean glassware, and a grumble and a laugh if we had too much. I’ve run into him a few times over the years and always had a good talk. Rest is the arms of our Lord my friend. We will visit again someday. My prayers are with the family.
