Randy Dale Schuster, 68, of Sorento, Illinois, passed away with his family by his side on April 30, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 16th, 2025, at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, Illinois.
Randy was born December 1, 1956, in Highland, Illinois to Paul and Esther (Schweppe) Schuster. A lifelong resident of Bond County, Randy was proud of his small-town roots and never strayed far from the place he called home. A graduate of the Greenville High School Class of 1974, Randy went on to work as a laborer in a variety of roles, including time at Granite City’s A.O. Smith, Demoulin Bros. in Greenville, and Imperial Steel in Alton. He
was known not only for his strong work ethic but also for being the kind of man who would do anything for anyone — always ready to lend a hand, no
questions asked.
On December 20, 1983, Randy married the love of his life, Deborah Long, in Reno, Illinois. Together, they raised two children and built a life filled with laughter, love, and plenty of jokes. A true prankster and “good ol’ country boy,” Randy had a gift for making people laugh and never missed a chance to tell a joke — you never knew quite what he was going to say next. Randy had skill as a mechanic, and loved fishing, especially with his
grandson. He was also a collector of all things Betty Boop — even proudly wearing his love for the iconic cartoon character in tattoo form. He lived
simply, loved deeply, and had a personality that filled every room he entered.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Paul and Esther; brother, Bradley Schuster; sons, Randy and Scott Schuster; great grandchild John Phillips.
Randy is survived by his wife, Deborah Schuster of Sorento, Illinois; daughter, Rebecca (Jason Hood) Schuster; son, Tyler (Darla) Stroud of Herrin, Illinois; grandchildren, Brittany (Matthew Phillips) Stroud of Crainville, Illinois, Preston Schuster of Sorento, Illinois, Braxton Stroud of Herrin, Illinois; great grandchildren, Jayce, Jameson, Jensen; siblings, Ray (Barbara) Schuster of Sorento, Illinois, Carl (Dawn) Schuster of Hillsboro, Illinois, Charles (Barbara) Schuster of Sorento, Illinois; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorials be made to: The Family of Randy Schuster, 118 E. College Ave., Greenville, Illinois 62246.
The family has entrusted Assalley Funeral Home in Greenville with the ceremonies.

Mom loved Randy. He would go by her house and honk and she would wave and say “Hi Randy” . He made her smile and brightened her days when he did this.
