Brenda Louise Barker, 54, of Taylorville passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 with her family by her side.

Brenda was born February 29, 1968 in Hillsboro, the daughter of Hubert and Betty Louise (Stolte) Barker.  She married Larry D. Grzybinski, and they later divorced.  Brenda then married David L. Lowis, and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2020.

Brenda graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1986.  She worked for many years in the cafeteria at Taylorville High School, and then at Memorial School as a custodian.  Brenda also worked as a bartender at The Patch in Hewittville, and most recently with her grandson, “The John Deere Boy”, providing lawncare. She was a member of The Eagles #1425 in Taylorville, and was a former Secretary of the Mid-State Chapter of A.B.A.T.E.

Brenda was hardworking, generous to those in need, and always late.  She enjoyed riding her Honda Rebel 250, gardening, cooking, baking, fishing, and late night runs for Casey’s Pizza. Above all, her life was her grandchildren, and spending time with them.

She was also preceded in death by her father, and stepfather, Charles V. Babbs.

Brenda is survived by her mother, Betty L. Babbs of Taylorville; daughter, Kaci Louise (husband, DJ) DeVore of Taylorville; grandchildren, Gage Price, Jaylynn DeVore, and Austyn June DeVore, all of Taylorville; brothers, Larry (wife, Vicki), Clarence (wife, Betty), Ralph, and David Barker, all of Taylorville; sister, Tina Babbs of Taylorville; special friend, Missy Zini; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568.

Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the funeral home with Rev. Chad Foster officiating.

Interment will follow the funeral ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  The family invites friends and family to gather at the Church of the Nazarene in Taylorville for a luncheon following the burial.

    • Light a CandleI am sad to see this. I remember this woman who was so kind Tina use to take me to her place out at the lake. I remember her working at the bar in Hewitville and getting our candy every day. Loved that woman she was one great soul… Tina and Charlie also the whole family. Angels do fly high.. took u too soon but I will see you again one day!
