  1. “Abe” was my scout master around 1961-62. He had a German shepherd named “Schotzie” that accompanied us on camping outings. We ALWAYS had great fun when camping and he was a very kind, quiet person. I always held him in high regard just from that brief encounter. Once while hiking on a camping trip in the Shoal Creek bottoms we were harassed by a pack of dogs. No problem. He simply said “Schotzie, move them” (exact words). Schotzie tore into the FOUR dogs like a well oiled machine. No fighting or biting just asserting her dominance. I watched in disbelief as the problem was solved in short order. I was very impressed. We would sit around the campfire and talk about anything and everything. He was a very kind, slightly stern disciplinarian but without being overbearing or scary to a bunch of 11yo boys. He wanted things done correctly and demonstrated the ways to accomplish that. I never forgot him and considered him on the list of most interesting people I ever met. I had no idea he still resided in Greenville or would have visited many years ago. My condolences and sympathies to his family.
