Evelena May Brotherton

Evelena May Brotherton, 84, of Taylorville, passed away at 2:33 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Evelena was born October 10, 1932 in Noble, IL, the daughter of Harold Henry and Della May (Stanley) Runyon. She married David Lee Brotherton on July 20, 1956 in Mattoon, IL. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2008.
Evelena graduated from Noble High School, and then continued her education by earning an associate’s degree from business college in Mattoon, IL. She spent twenty-five years as the administrative assistant to the superintendent of Taylorville schools. She would retire to be a full-time grandmother. Evelena was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville. There was nothing in the world that she loved more than being a mom and grandma.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Delbert and Lenard Runyon; and sisters, Alice Runyon and Bonnie McKnight.
Evelena is survived by her sons, Greg (wife, Marla) Brotherton of Taylorville, Mark (wife, Elizabeth) Brotherton of Bossier City, LA, Stan (wife, Debbie) Brotherton of Port Charlotte, FL, and Michael (wife, Beth) Brotherton of Taylorville; grandchildren, Clint (wife, Quin) Brotherton of Newport Beach, CA, Ross Brotherton of Taylorville, Doug (wife, Megan) Brotherton of Katy, TX, Mike (wife, Sarah) Brotherton of Sugarland, TX, Eric Brotherton of Ann Arbor, MI, Robert Nelch of Port Charlotte, FL, Lisa Brotherton of Chatham, IL, Joe Brotherton of Springfield, IL, Jorden (wife, Erica) Brotherton of Oak Park, IL, Jacen Brotherton of St. Louis, MO, and Madeline, Mallory, and Macyn Brotherton all of Taylorville; great grandchildren, Alisea, Destiny, David, Madison, Peyton, Everett, Reagan, and Colton; brother, Robert (wife, Leila Mae) Runyon of Noble, IL; sister-in-law, Freda Runyon of Noble, IL; brother-in-law, Dale McKnight of Olney, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor Becky Lembke, officiant.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

We were new in Taylorville. We knew noone but our family. Our daughter, Lisa Matheis, was killed Nov,1978. The first ones to our door to share our pain and give their condolences were Mr. and Mrs. Brotherton. I will always remember their kindness.

We have always admired her deep devotion to all of her loving family. We cherish the years that we knew her when she was working in the school system, as well as we knew her through our church. Her competence was always admired by all those who were blessed to know her. We will continue to keep all of her family in our thoughts and prayers.
