Gregory ‘Chico’ Lopez Ramires, 68, of Greenville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, O’Fallon, Illinois.

Greg was born February 22, 1957, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of Gregorio and Mercedes (Lopez) Ramirez.  He married Margaret Weis at the St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, in Cahokia, Illinois, on January 24, 1976, and were happily married for over 49 years.

He and his wife moved to the area, about 8 years ago, to help with the care of his father-in-law and decided to make Greenville their forever home.

Most people would describe Greg as a low-key kind of guy, a family man, and a person who enjoyed cracking jokes. He was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren, with whom he laughed, played and found joy in having them nearby. He invented a game called ‘grandpa’s court’ which he played with the children to help them solve issues and problems between themselves.

He worked at the Chrysler Plant in Fenton, Missouri and was a very proud member of the UAW Union. He was also heavily involved in the Civil Rights Committee at the Chrysler plant.

As a young adult he became interested in collecting coins and victrola players. Once in a great while he liked to fish, as it had the quiet and serenity provided to relax.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio and Mercedes and his siblings, Louis Ramirez, Lucina (Dan) Kaup, and Tommy Ramirez.

Surviving Greg are his wife, Margaret Ramires of Greenville, Illinois; children, Dominic (Tanya) Ramires of O’Fallon, Illinois, Dawn (Jerod Stinnett) McFarland of Troy, Illinois, Jennifer (Justin Kunst) O’Brien of Swansea, Illinois; grandchildren, Mercedes, Ethan, Dominic Jr., Gregory, Jackson, Janelle, Christine, Ryla, Leo, Hope, Patience, Haley; siblings, Elodia (Paul) Holzbaur, Erminia Hampton, Roberto (Nancy) Ramirez, Johnny (Verna) Ramirez, Domitila (Steve) O’Guinn, Cesilia (Tom) Kelpe; sister-in-law, Joyce Ramirez; and many loving nieces and nephews.

    • We’ll miss Uncle Chico’s smack talking that brought Teresa and me much laughter. Looking back as a kid, I enjoyed the way he messed with me, it sewed the seeds of I how to craft my smack talk. The world has lost a good man.
