Helen Louise Curvey, 87, of Taylorville died at 2:17 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006 in Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.
She was born July 29, 1918, in Taylorville, the daughter of Harland H. and Winnie Louise (Pugh) Parks. She married Robert Curvey on October 26, 1943, in Paducah, KY. She was a civilian secretary for USAF in Dayton, OH during World War II. In the early 1950s, Helen and Robert moved to Terra Haute to operate a large grain farm. Then they moved to Pagosa Springs, CO in the late 1960s where they owned and operated a Best Western Motel Restaurant and lounge, also known as the Great Pagosa Hot Springs. Helen and Robert sold their business and retired and moved back to Taylorville in 1979. Helen enjoyed the outdoors where she would hunt, fish and watch the wildlife. Some of her favorite pastimes were cooking, crocheting, sports and visiting with friends.
Surviving are her sons: Robert E. (wife Terrie) Curvey of Pagosa Springs, CO and James D. (wife Cindy) Curvey of Taylorville; grandchildren: Shawn C. (wife Rayann) Curvey and Robin Curvey, all of Pagosa Springs, CO: sister-in-law, Pat Parks of Middleton, WI, Elsie Daniels and Florence Curvey both of Taylorville; one great-grandchild; one step great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Harland Parks, three brother-in-laws, one sister-in-law, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, in Shafer Funeral Home with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery, Morrisonville.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services on Tuesday in the funeral home. Shafer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
