Mark Alan Hediger, 63, of Pocahontas, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 3, 2025, at his home.
Mark was born December 29, 1961, in Highland, Illinois, the son of Orville Duane and Genelle June (Weiss) Hediger. He married Toni Prater on June 28, 1985, and they later divorced. He was a lifelong resident of our community. In 1981, he graduated from Greenville High school and attended Kaskaskia College where he took auto mechanic classes.
He retired in May 2022 after dedicating 40 years of service as a custodian for the Bond County Community Unit #2 School District. Throughout his career, he took immense pride in maintaining the Pocahontas School, ensuring it was a safe and welcoming place for students and staff. His commitment, care, and friendly nature touched the lives of countless students, their families, and colleagues, leaving behind many lasting relationships and fond memories.
Mark was a saver, collector and gatherer. He loved to save everything because everything had a use. If you needed something it was in one of the sheds. The challenge lied in finding it among the organized chaos.
He enjoyed old-school country music, bowling, go-kart racing for which he won several awards. He loved tinkering with small engines and spending time with his friends, often meeting up with them at the local establishments. Sociable and outgoing, he never met a stranger, and everyone knew his name.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in infancy, Brian Lee Hediger, who passed in November of 1967; maternal grandparents, Edgar & Ordella Weiss; and paternal grandparents, William & Clara Hediger.
Surviving Mark is his sister, Lori Ann (Robert Steven) Kalous, of Greenville, Illinois; niece, Taylor Genelle Kalous of Breese, Illinois; nephew, Matthew Joseph Kalous of Pocahontas, Illinois; special friend, Joyce Paintiff of Pocahontas, Illinois; and numerous loving cousins, extended family, and friends.

I grew up with Mark. He was like my little brother. We had a lot of fun between riding his go cart, playing catch with a baseball, pulling weeds out of the bean fields for his dad, making mud pies and just goofing off. Mark held a very special place in my heart. Our deepest sympathy to Lori and her family. He will be missed.
