Adene Rightnower, age 95, of Taylorville, Illinois passed away on March 6, 2024 at Hickory Estates in Taylorville.

Adene was born on March 24, 1928, in Donnellson, Illinois, the daughter of Byron T. Johnson and Florence (Edwards) Johnson.

She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in Decatur, Illinois in 1945. On March 3, 1973, she married Orville Earl Rightnower. He passed away on December 11, 1975.

Adene lived a full life and is best described as a strong-willed and independent woman. She was a loving mother. Adene was a talented seamstress. In the 1970s, Adene started her own sewing and custom bridal gowns business, Sew Right Originals, which was located in Taylorville, IL. Her business operated for 3 years. Likewise, she and her husband, Orville, also owned and operated another business, Town & Country Night Club in the 1960s and 1970s.

Adene was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Taylorville, IL and the First Baptist Church in Venice, Florida, when she resided there. She was a member of the Quilt Guild of Venice, Florida. Adene’s interests included traveling and “learning about anything historical.” Her hobbies further included gardening, sewing, quilting, and she was an avid reader. She enjoyed puzzles and board games.

Adene is survived by her son, Robert “Bob” (Lu Anne) Stone, Jr. of Palmer, IL; daughters, Charlotte (Ed) Adams of Peoria, IL; Sandy (Jim) Lutz of Monterey, TN; Vicki (Usama) Dakdok of Marble Hill, MO; Susan (Rod) Petty of Taylorville, IL; and sister, Glenda Hagamasy of Decatur, IL; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville; son, Brian E. Stone; and daughter; Rebecca Lyn Mendoza.

Visitation & Funeral Mass: The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin, Taylorville, IL. An additional visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. will be held with funeral service starting at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Foster.

Internment will follow the funeral service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

The family has entrusted Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville with ceremonies.

  4. Sandy, please know you’re in our prayers. Dave’s grandparents, Velma & Skeeter Flanders were good friends of your parents. They used to go to T & C Lounge quite often. Dave & Gary also hunted with your Dad. Such a small world.
