It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Margaret Leibold, 65, on December 27, 2024, at Holy Family Hospital in Greenville, Illinois.
Born August 13, 1959, in Normandy, Missouri to Harry and Anna (Balky) Wyman, Anna was raised in Granite City, Illinois and attended Granite City High School. She grew up during a time when connections were made not online but through other types of communication such as CB radios. From her family’s home base station, she struck up a conversation with an aspiring over-the-road trucker named Alvin Leibold—a conversation that would change her life forever. Their connection grew into a deep love, resulting in their marriage in Granite City in 1979. Together, they shared 45 years of laughter, devotion, and adventure.
Anna had a passion for being creative and working with her hands, which led her and her sister, Terry, to open a ceramics shop in New Mexico. They painted and crafted ceramics, sharing their art at rodeos and local events. Her heart was always with animals, especially horses. Her love for them often brought her to horse auctions, where she found and purchased Sunshine—a malnourished horse she purchased for $75. With care, determination, and treats like Three Musketeers bars and Pepsi, she nursed Sunshine back to health, a testament to her unwavering compassion.
She and Alvin lived in New Mexico and Texas before returning to Illinois to become a caregiver for their loved one. In 2019, the Leibold’s found their perfect slice of heaven in rural Bond County and established roots there. A devoted stay-at-home mom, she raised her two sons with love and instilled in them her values of kindness and resilience. She expressed her love through her talents as a seamstress, creating beautiful quilts and blankets, especially for babies and children. Every
stitch was a gift of her boundless love and creativity.
Known for her quick wit and big personality, she was the backbone of her family, unafraid to “wear the pants” when needed. Her favorite show, Yellowstone,
reflected her lifelong dream of ranch life. Above all, Anna was a giver—offering the shirt off her back, seeing the good in everyone, and putting others before
herself. Though her family often joked about her lack of cooking skills—claiming she could “burn water in the microwave”—her home was always filled with warmth, humor, and love.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Anna Wyman; sisters, Patricia Wyman, Jennette Scarbrough, Gail Kershaw, Georgia Reiser and Terry Kivlehen; brothers, Harry and Jack Wyman.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Leibold, Jr. of Greenville, Illinois; sons, Alvin Leibold III, of Greenville, Illinois, and Harry Leibold, of Granite City, Illinois; grandson, Hunter Leibold of Granite City, Illinois; nieces, Mary Kivlehen and Patricia King both of Granite City, Illinois; and nephew, Herman Reiser of
Granite City, Illinois.
Per Anna’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation.
The family has entrusted Assalley Funeral Home in Greenville with the ceremonies.
