Arthur Joseph Edwards, Jr.

SPRINGFIELD - Arthur Joseph Edwards Jr., 86, of Springfield passed away at 1:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at Heritage Manor ContinuCare.

He was born March 14, 1921, in Litchfield, the son of the late Arthur Joseph and Margaret Mead Edwards Sr. He married Mary Helen Bennett on Aug. 9, 1947, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 1999.

Mr. Edwards was employed as a purchasing agent for Sangamo Electric Co. before his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Temple, Ansar Temple and Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Arthur is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Kevin) Proctor, and son, Doug (Christina) Edwards, both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Zach Proctor of Springfield, Kellsey Proctor of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Kirsti Carter of Sherman; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Trey Carter, both of Sherman; two nieces; and two nephews.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, 437 South Grand Ave. W. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Merrill officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In memory of Arthur J. Edwards Jr., memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
