Barbara A. Rupel, 75, of Taylorville, entered eternal rest on September 24, 2022, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Barb was born January 7, 1947, in Lafayette, IN, the daughter of George and Betty (Graham) Dukes. She married Robert Rupel in Lafayette, IN, and later divorced. He preceded her in death, on July 11, 2016. She was known to be loving, caring, and energetic. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were most important to her. Outside of living in Brookston for 22 years, she was a lifelong resident of Lafayette, and she worked as a city bus driver for twenty years. She loved playing cards, bingo, watching crime dramas, and her ‘soaps’ – especially, Days of Our Lives.
Barb is survived by her children, Michael L. (Jenna) Hughes of New Orleans, LA, Pam (Kevin) Macha of Pawnee, IL, and Vincent Hughes of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Hudson, Dustin (Daphne), Caleb (Taylor), Noah (Angel), and William; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Athena; brother, George A. ‘Pete’ (Victoria) Dukes of Jacksonville, FL; and brother-in-law, Harry Jackson of Lafayette, IN.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Linda Austin, Diana Davis, Nancy Silver, and Marilyn Jackson; and two brothers, William L. Dukes and James R. Dukes.
Private family ceremonies were held.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, the family suggests memorials to: Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, 800 McAdam Drive, Taylorville, IL 62568.
The family has entrusted Perfetti–Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville with arrangements.
