Barbara Norene Dixon, 87, of Taylorville, Illinois passed away on July 12, 2024. Norene was born in Taylorville, the daughter of John and Mary (Spigarelli) Giovagnoli. She married Jack Edward Dixon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville on July 6, 1960. They were married for over 41 blessed years before his passing on June 23, 2002.
After graduating Taylorville High School in 1955, she held a variety of jobs, including at the family restaurant and as a hairdresser. She even moved to Chicago to work for Delta Airlines. After returning to Taylorville, she met her husband, Jack, and worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital until the birth of the first of their four children.
Norene was a caregiver by nature, providing for and taking care of her family. She was the primary caregiver to her son, Scott, who was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 4, until his passing at age 24.
She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church, was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and enjoyed watching old movies and reading, especially about the Kennedy family. She loved cooking big Italian meals for her family and had a great affection for all animals, especially cats.
Norene loved to travel. While working for Delta, she accompanied her parents back to Italy, later visiting Cuba and Jamaica. After retiring, she traveled with her sister and brother-in-law to Italy, China, and New York City, and then to Hawaii with her children and grandson.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; children, Paul Scott Dixon and Jacqueline Adele Dixon; and brother-in-law, Ralph Fiaoni.
Surviving Norene are her children, Lynn Dixon of Stonington, Illinois, and Jill (Parker Kious) Dixon of Owaneco, Illinois; grandson, Curtis (Lindsey) Dixon of Taylorville, Illinois; great grandson, Cormac Edward Dixon of Taylorville, Illinois; sister, Joan Fiaoni of Taylorville, Illinois; and nephews, John (Treva) Fiaoni of Taylorville, Illinois, David (Laura) Fiaoni of Arlington, Texas, and Michael (Cathy) Fiaoni of Licking, Missouri.
