Bernice L. Towell, 83, of Sorento passed away Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 6:32 PM at Cardinal Hill Healthcare in Greenville. 

She was born January 28, 1921 in Old Ripley the daughter of T. Harley and Martha (Clanton) Tipsword. She married Robert Towell on May 2, 1941 in St. Charles, MO, he preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a son Robert "Bobby" Towell, 2 brothers, Julius F. and Harley A. Tipsword, 5 sisters Lillian Caulk, Mayme Traub, Lucinda Landolt, Charlene Frueh and Julie Ann Tipsword. 

Mrs. Towell was the last supervisor for the Sorento Telephone office before it went automated and also had worked for the Secretary of State. She was a member of the Sorento Presbyterian Church and a 50 year member of Fem Chapter #7 54 Order of the Eastern Star. 

Survivors: Daughters, Evelyn (Russel) Pope of Sorento and Barbara (Leonard) Hall of Greenville; 3 Grandchildren, Julie Ann (Dean) Carrillon of Carlyle, Elizabeth (Travis) Rieder of Shelbyville and Matthew (Janel) Hall of Pocahontas; 3 Great Grandchildren; Brother, Thomas Tipsword of Sorento; Sister, Shirley Tipsword of Sorento; Several nieces and nephews. 

Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the Sorento Presbyterian Church, with Rev. James Howie officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to Sorento Presbyterian Church, Sunnyside Cemetery Association, Sorento Eastern Star or a charity of donor's choice.
