Betty Jean “Jackie” Lucas, 94, of Taylorville, passed away at 11:38 a.m. on Friday, on June 3, 2022, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Jackie was born December 23, 1927, in Blue Mound, the daughter of John A. and Carrie J. (Clements) Harding.  She graduated from Morrisonville High School with the Class of 1945, and married Raymond J. Lucas on July 30, 1949, at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville.  He preceded her in death on February 9, 2012.

Jackie worked for the Office of the Christian County Treasurer for many years, before becoming a homemaker.  She was devoted to her church, St. Maurice Catholic Church, where she was active as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Altar & Rosary, and served as a soloist for many funerals and weddings.  Jackie was a talented seamstress, and she made many of the beautiful tapestries that hung in the church throughout the year for various holidays, holy days, and church seasons.  She was also an avid reader, spending much of her free time with a book in hand.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Irvin; and brothers, Don, Harv, John, and Gerald Harding.

Jackie is survived by her daughter, Jean (husband, Stan) Rovey of Springfield; grandchildren, Dr. Joshua (wife, Erin) Rovey of Mahomet, and Erika (husband, Zach) Schlechte of Edwardsville; great grandchildren, Lucas Rovey, Lyla Rovey, Sydney Rovey, Nolan Rovey, Liam Schlechte, Logan Schlechte, and Landon Schlechte; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 706 SE 4th Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546, with Rev. John C. Burnette as celebrant.

Interment will follow mass at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville.

Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Kitchell Memorial Library, 300 SE 5th Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546.  Donations of food may be brought to the Knights of Columbus #1151 in Morrisonville on Saturday morning.
