Charlene Susan Carter, 86, of Morrisonville, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Carriage Crossing Senior Living of Taylorville.
Susan was born October 9, 1937, in Palmer, Illinois, the daughter of Ward H. and Dorothy A. (Kurfiss) Clinard. She married Artie Carter November 25, 1956, at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville.
After graduating from Raymond High School, Susan married the love of her life, going on to have 3 beautiful children. She spent 20 years as a bookkeeper for Lowe Hardware in Morrisonville, but her real passion was found in her God, her family, and her friends. She was a devoted reader of the Bible, having studied it from cover to cover many times over. Her faith was strong, having spent her life as a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville.
On any given day, you could find Susan hanging out with her grandkids, having lunch with the girls, Joyce & Darlene, mowing the grass with the push mower, or cooking in the kitchen. She was an outgoing individual who showed a giving nature. Susan was considered a true friend, compassionate and caring to those around her. She was a great cook and loved to spoil her grandkids, especially while she babysat them. You could find her listening to her favorite gospel and hymnals, as well as, hits from musician Boots Randolph.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Artie Carter, parents, and brothers, Darrell & Harold Clinard, and a great-grandson, Keegan Virden.
Surviving Susan are her son, Sam (Tammy) Carter of Morrisonville, Illinois; daughters, Cindy (Michael) Millburg of Morrisonville, Illinois and Lori (Chris) Durbin of Morrisonville, Illinois; grandchildren, Jonathon Millburg, Lance (Becky) Millburg, Cameron Millburg, and Abigale (Alexander) Kane, Thomas (Erin) Carter, Todd Carter, and Emily Durbin (Louis DePaepe); step-grandchildren, Joni (Michael) Virden, Stephanie (Josh) Cisco, and Adam (Sarah) Durbin; 7 great grandchildren, Carter, Claire, Lydia, Andrew, Benjamin, Avery, and Grayson; 10 step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
