Chesterfield Walker, Sr.

Chesterfield Walker, Sr, of Springfield formerly of Taylorville died on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 10:30 P.M. at Springfield Terrace. He was born on November 20, 1929 in Macon, Mississippi to Lucious and Hattie Ann (Griffin) Walker. He was the oldest of 3 sons. Chesterfield's formative years were spent in Macon, MS, where he was educated in the public school system.

Chesterfield met and married Francie Dooley in 1951. They became parents of 4 children: Diane Walker Galvin, Chesterfield Walker, Jr, Sharon K. Walker and James R. Walker. Chesterfield was drafted in the Army n 1952-1954. He went to Fort Knox, KY for Basic Training, then was sent to Seattle, WA, and from there sent to Korea. He was a tanker in the Korean War. In 1959, Chesterfield relocated his family to Taylorville, II.

He was employed at Page's Auto Body Shop as a painter and body repairman. Years later he worked at Hopper Ford Motor Co for Terry Grant as a painter and auto body repair man. In the later 1960's, he went to work at Peabody Coal Co. Chesterfield was a member of American Legion in Taylorville and Springfield.

He leaves to cherish his memory: 2 Daughters: Diane Walker Galvin of Taylorville, Sharon Kay Walker of Taylorville; Sons: Chesterfield Walker, Jr, (wife Mary) of Warrensburg, II, and James R. Walker (wife Martha) of Memphis, TN, 8 Grandchildren, 6 Great­ Grandchildren; 2 Brother Richard Walker (wife Willie Mener) and Willie Walker (wife Rev. Tiney) both of Taylorville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at Shafer Funeral Home on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in Shafer Funeral Home, Taylorville with Rev. Tiney Walker officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service in the funeral home Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, II with military rites.
