Clarence Turner Jr., 89, of Sorento died at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Pope officiating.
Inurnment will be in St. Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery in St. Charles, MO.
Mr. Turner was born in Sorento on Oct. 11, 1923, the son of the late Clarence Sr. and Ida F. (Jordan) Turner. He married Harriette Noah in St. Charles, MO, on Aug. 19, 1946, and she preceded him in death.
He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Monssen. He received the Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with eight stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars.
A skilled technician for Fairbanks Scale Company before his retirement, Mr. Turner had also worked as a mechanic. He was a member of Sorento Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Panama VFW Post 6628 and Kessinger American Legion Post 713.
He is survived by his sons, Roger (wife Nelda) Turner of Sorento and Harry (wife Barb) Dillon of Portland, MO; daughters, Dianna Schweppe of Staunton and Dorothy Fosdick of Fort Worth, TX; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, William Turner of Staunton and Alfred Turner of St. Louis; sisters, Bertha (husband Jim) Courtney of St. Peters, MO, and Virginia (husband Jim) Moore of Goose Creek Lake, MO; daughter-in-law, Susan Dillon of Steedman, MO; son-in-law, Ed Chapon of Whittier, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Turner was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Dillon; daughter, Rosezetta Mae Chapon; sister, Inez Turner; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Panama VFW Post 6628, Sorento Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
