Delores Mae Collier, 91, of Greenville, Illinois, passed away on April 12, 2024, at Hickory Estates Memory Care, Greenville, Illinois.

Delores was born June 24, 1932, in Vandalia, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Oma Mae (Hudson) German. She attended Vandalia High School through her Junior year and later went on to receive her GED.  She married Aaron Collier on August 16, 1950, in Greenville, Illinois, and they were married for over 67 years. In 2017, he preceded her in death.

She made Greenville her home and worked on the farm with her husband for 12 years before moving into town. For over 21 years she worked for DeMoulin Brothers where she did stamping and marking for the embroidery department.

Delores was a hardworking mother who liked to garden, was an excellent cook and seamstress, often making the girls’ clothing, such as Easter dresses and other fine outfits. She loved to entertain, often throwing card parties with friends. She and her husband loved to travel, especially after retirement. Later in life she enrolled in an Art class at the University of Illinois where her love of painting shown through.

Delores was very involved with her church, oftentimes you could find her doing crafts, baking events, helping with the children’s Bible school, and always willing to fill in wherever she was needed. The Bible was one of her favorite books to read and she found peace and inspiration from it.

Preceding Delores in death are her parents, her husband, her daughter, Kathryn Holzhauer, and her siblings, Harry German, Gene German, Irene Haire, Thelma Hornbeck, Helen Short, Lelia Seats, Lloyd German and Norma Gene Forbes.

Surviving Delores are her daughter, Carolyn Hopkins of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Loretta Summers of Lebanon, Indiana, Janet (John) Guetterman of Knightdale, North Carolina, Cheryl (Robert) Foehner of Greenville, Nancy (Jeffrey) Tischhauser of Pocahontas, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 218 E. South Ave., Greenville, IL 62246.

Funeral: 11:00 am., following the visitation.

Burial: Mt. Auburn Cemetery, following the funeral.

The family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church and/or Bond County Hospice, in lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts.

Memorial contributions may be given at the visitation and funeral or mailed to the First Baptist Church, 218 E. South Ave., Greenville, IL 62246, and/or Bond County Hospice, 1520 S. 4 th Street, Greenville, IL 62246.

The family has entrusted Assalley-Young Funeral Home in Greenville with the ceremonies.
