Dorothy LaVaughn File Scott, 87, of Lebanon, formerly of Litchfield, passed away at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Cedar Ridge Healthcare Center in Lebanon.
She was born July 13, 1924, in Walshville, the daughter of William and Lillie (Kitchen) Hemken. She married Charles L. File on May 25, 1941; he preceded her in death on October 30, 1980. Shen then married Charles Scott, who preceded her in death on February 24, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Nadine Gabriel, sisters, Alice Jarman and Kee Reed, brothers, Fritz and Chieck Hemken.
Dorothy was a member of Walshville Baptist Church. She liked fishing, bingo, quilting, and flowers.
Survivors include a son, Dwight (Judy) File of Alton; daughters, Patty Hancock of Litchfield and Diann Warren of Jerseyville; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Hemken of Hillsboro and Dwight (Joyce) Hemken of Winchester; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at the Walshville Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Bates officiating. burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sorento. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at the Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento.
