Eugene Richard Powell

Eugene Richard Powell, 78, of Panama, IL passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at 12:10 PM at Hillsboro Health Care Center.
He was born September 30, 1926 in East St. Louis, IL the son of William and Viola (Bryant)Powell. He married Fay Dolores Sams on February 2, 1946 at East St. Louis, IL. Preceding him in death were his parents and 1 son David Powell.
Mr. Powell was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, he was a radio operator during World War II where he intercepted and translated Japanese radio messages. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in action. Mr. Powell was a Ham Radio operator and also wrote a book titled "Smoke Screen".

Powell of Panama, IL; Sons, Richard Powell of Greenville, IL and Christopher (wife, Soudary) Powell of Poplar Grove, IL; Daughters, Lynne (husband, Anthony) Conn of Key West, FL, Lisa (husband, Daryl) Harris of Panama, IL, Jo Ellen Powell of Maplewood, MO, Susan Powell of Panama, IL and Melissa (husband, Christopher) Key of Union, MO; 8 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren; Brother, William Powell of Mt. Zion, IL.
Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 PM Sunday, December 5 at Perfetti Funeral Home in Panama. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 5 at Perfetti Funeral Home in Panama, with Rev. Dave Trover officiating.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association.
