Frank M. Hunter, age 77, of Greenville, Illinois, peacefully, passed away at Carlyle Healthcare, Carlyle, Illinois on May 16, 2024. He was born October 28, 1946, in Turlock, California, the son of Homer Frank and Josephine Constance (Caravello) Hunter. He married Cathy Jo Earlin and they later divorced.
Frank was baptized as an infant into the Catholic faith. In later years, he attended Smith Grove Baptist Church with older friends and was baptized by immersion about 20-25 years ago. He attended Lutheran Special Services during children’s programs with Brian and Julie Lingley, children of Dennis and Carol Lingley, and was receiving pastoral care from Dee Armes, a pastor of the First Christian Church.
He was an honorably discharged veteran who served 3 years in the United States Army, from 1967 – 1970, and Vietnam service from 1967-1968, and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Marksmanship Badge (Rifle), Vietnam Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and combat infantry badge. For many years, his Illinois license plate read
RECON 67.
In 1979 Frank decided to complete his high school education and earned his Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate. It was important to him to earn this certificate. He worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and in laundry and housekeeping in nursing homes, as well as working on livestock and grain farms, a janitor at Carlisle Syntec, and was a cook at Lu-Bob’s restaurant.
Frank was known to be kind, generous, entertaining, and told very interesting stories. He loved animals, especially his dogs, cats, chickens, pigeons, and rabbits.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Homer and Josephine; stepmother, Sophie Eileen
Foster Hunter; sister Kathleen Hunter Massee; and ex-wife, Cathy Jo Hunter.
Surviving Frank are his daughter, Jessica Hunter of Leon, Iowa; grandchildren, Zackary Brandt,
Gracie Brandt, Jaxton Hunter, Landen Hunter; and siblings, David (Thelma) Hunter, Roger (Sue)
Hunter, Earleen (Scott) Hunter Johnson; and many extended family and friends.

Memorial Service: 11:00 am., following the visitation.
Military Honors will follow the service at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery, rural Greenville, Illinois, by the Greenville VFW.
