Frank Sockel, 91, of Taylorville died at 10:05 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010, in Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 22, 1918, in Springfield, the son of Anton and Antonina Razemskus Sockel. He married Gerry Fuller on June 6, 1947, in Edinburg. Frank worked as an oil distributor for City Service and later worked for Borg Warner where he retired. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Taylorville. He was a member of the Lions Club and a 60-year member of Taylorville VFW. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are his wife; sons: Steve (wife Penny) Sockel of South St. Paul, MN, Gary (wife Janet) Sockel of Omaha, NE, and Mark (wife Charlene) Sockel and David (wife Sharon) Peters, both of Taylorville; daughters: Sandy Fassero of Taylorville and Nancee (husband Duane) Meester of Omaha, NE; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister; and one great-grandson.

Funeral Mass will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Taylorville, with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, in the church. Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home, Taylorville, is in charge of arrangements.
