Frank Zalar, 92, of Farmersville died at 2:35 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Perfetti Funeral Home in Panama. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Ted Schelich officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Farmersville.
Mr. Zalar was born in Panama on Feb. 14, 1920, the son of the late Joseph and Angela (Osolnik) Zalar. He married Katherine Brazel Craycraft in Paragould, AR, on July 11, 1948, and she preceded him in death.
He owned and operated Zalar’s Silver Dollar Bar in Farmersville for 23 years and was developer of Sunset Acres Subdivision in Farmersville.
Mr. Zalar worked as a coal miner for several years and was an Army veteran stationed in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.
He is survived by daughter, Sharon (husband Ron) Langen of Farmersville; grandson, Brian Langen of New York, NY; five stepgrandchildren, Katherine (husband Kelly) Getz, Kimberly Durbin, Ronette (husband Jeff) Oller, Nicole Woodbury and Russell (wife Janet) Craycraft; several stepgreat-grandchildren; niece, Angela Bouillon; and nephew, Joseph Zalar.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Zalar was preceded in death by stepson, Ronald Craycraft; stepgreat-grandchild, Korey Getz; sister, Josephine Mills; and brother, Joseph Zalar.
Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
