Harold W. Hilliard, age 90, of Greenville passed away February 28, 2012 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 1 PM at Young Funeral Home with Rev. Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery with military honors by Greenville V.F.W. Post #1377. Friends may call Friday, March 2, 2012 from 4-7 PM at Young Funeral Home. Mr. Hilliard was born September 13, 1921 in Bond County, Illinois to Guy and Dorothy (Ulmer) Hilliard. He married Imogene Willeford on May 23, 1942 in Greenville, IL. She died June 19, 2011. To this union three sons were born, Rick G. and Ken J. of Greenville and Robert Hilliard. He is also survived by one grandchild. Mr. Hilliard grew up and went to school in Greenville. He served two years in the U.S. Army during WW II. After the service he farmed a few years until he and his family left to homestead an area in Idaho that had a Japanese Relocation Camp during WW II. While in Idaho he also worked in livestock markets in Jerome and Twin Falls , Idaho. After nine years of homesteading the family returned to Greenville. Upon returning to Greenville he went to auctioneer school in Kansas City, MO and was a well known auctioneer in Bond County and other areas. Mr. Hilliard built, owned, and operated Greenville Livestock Auction Market for 29 years. He also auctioned at Wayne City Livestock Auction for many years and Mississippi Valley Stock Yards for 5 years. He had been president of Illinois Auctioneers Association and also of Illinois Livestock Auction Markets. He had also been a director of National Livestock Auction Markets. He semi-retired and moved to a cattle farm in Southern Illinois in Shawnee National Forest near Vienna for 6 years and then retired to Florida for 14 years returning to Greenville in 1994. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church or Bond County Hospice.
