Henry Chester Tomevi, 96, of Panama, IL passed away Sunday, February 12, 2006 at 9:00 PM at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Greenville.

He was born November 22, 1909 in Raton, New Mexico the son of Amadio and Gioconda (Torresani) Tomevi. He married Edna May Frickleton at the Presbyterian parsonage in Hillsboro, IL on October 16, 1935. Preceding him in death were his parents; Son, Gary Allen Tomevi; 3 Brothers, Angelo, Emil and Albert Joseph Tomevi; 3 Sisters, Margaret Trobaugh, Anna Emma Oehler and Lorene Gore; Daughter In Law, Nancy Tomevi.

Mr. Tomevi worked in St. Louis before his marriage and then farmed and did some mining before going to work for Shell Oil Company in Wood River in 1942. He retired from Shell Oil Company in 1967. He drove a school bus for the Hillsboro School District for several years. He was also mayor of Panama from 1978 until 1985. He was a long time member of the Panama United Methodist Church and retired form his bell ringing duties on April 4, 2004 after 55 years, at the age of 94. He had also served as Sunday school superintendent for 20 years and taught classes for many years as well.

(husband, Douglas) Martin of Panama, IL; Daughter In Law, Alcinda Tomevi of Holiday Shores, IL; Grandchildren, Gregory (wife, Cindy) Tomevi of York, PA, Gary Bruce (wife, Denise) Tomevi of Flemington, NJ, Dawn (husband, Michael) Hamby of Hillsboro, IL and Sharon (husband, Duane) Mollett of Panama, IL; Great Grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer, Jonathan, Jeffrey and Michelle Tomevi, Tyler Lee Hamby and Dustin Henry Duane Mollett; Sister, Virginia Dixon of Punta Gorda, FL; Brother, Herman Tomevi of Big Fork, MN; Brother In Law, Bobby Gore of Glasford, IL; Many Nieces and Nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday, February 16 from 9:00-11:00 AM at the Panama United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16 at 11:00 AM at the Panama United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dave Trover officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Panama.

In memory of Henry Tomevi memorials may be made to Panama United Methodist Church, the American Bible Society or Bond County Hospice.
