Hester S. Gottschalk

Hester S. Gottschalk, 99, of Taylorville, passed away on December 25, 2006 at 1:20 P.M. in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville.

She was born July 23, 1907 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the daughter of Elvis Syrus and Mary Ellen (Cambell) Smith. She married Paul G. Gottschalk in 1934 in Bowling Green, KY. She was a retired librarian at Taylorville High School. She was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Taylorville. She served as president of Taylorville Education Association and the school employee credit union. She was Past Regent of Peter Meyer Charter DAR, Past President of St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of Phi Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma and the retired teacher’s association. She was a Kentucky Colonel.

Surviving are her son, Dr. Paul (wife Joyce) Gottschalk of Hayward, WI; grandchildren: Dr. Paul (wife Katherine) Gottschalk of Ann Arbor, MI, Lee Ellen Gottschalk (husband Tony Sellers) of Madison, WI, and Joel Gottschalk of Alaska; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30, in First Presbyterian Church, Taylorville. Burial will be at a later date in Bowling Green, KY.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services in the church. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Taylorville, IL or Donor’s Choice.
