Ivan Earl Burns

Ivan E. Burns, 88, of Taylorville died at 6:05 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Matt Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Fraley Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Burns was born on July 27, 1924, in Clinton, the son of the late Alva and Hazel (Allen) Burns. He married Mary Elaine Vance on Sept. 3, 1949, at Taylorville, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 1992. 

He was an engineer technician for the Illinois Department of Transportation, retiring after 37 years of service. He was a member of VFW Post 4495 and Taylorville Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Burns is survived by a daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” (husband David) Miller of Holladay, TN; five grandchildren; two great -grandchildren; and a sister, Maybelle Harbert of Taylorville.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jon Burns, and infant son, James Eugene Burns.
