Graveside services for James E. Hughes, 77, of Davenport will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, IL. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Mr. Hughes passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013 at his residence. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements.

James Eldon Hughes was born on December 6, 1935 in Montgomery County, Illinois, the son of Ellsworth and Ruby (Hemken) Hughes. He graduated from Mt. Olive High School in Mt. Olive, IL. James worked as a freight manager at Mason Dixon Trucking in Davenport. He married Doris A. Brown in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death in 2010. James was a member of the Davenport Masonic Lodge, Teamsters Local 600, and was active in the Democratic Party. James was also involved with public and civic services for the city of Davenport.

He is survived by four Daughters: Mona (Dick) Elam of Hillsboro, IL, Kim (Bill) Chambers of Witchita, KS, Judith Jennings of St. Petersburg, FL, Brenda Hughes (Jim Newmann) of St. Louis, MO; two Step-Daughters: Laurie Claeys of Rock Island, IL, Cindy (Robert) Fulton of Burns Harbor, IN; three Step-Sons: Russell (Bea) Morgan of Germany, Stanley (Jill) Morgan of McHenry, IL, Howard (Carrie) Morgan of Burns Harbor, IN; a Sister: Emma Farnsworth of Barrington, IL; 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren; 16 Step-Grandchildren and 13 Step-Great-Grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamie Joyce; a grandson, Jonathan Jennings; his brother, Henry A. Hughes; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Farnsworth.

Memorials may be directed to the Sunnyside Cemetery, to be used for the preservation and care of the cemetery.
