James Everett Atkinson

James Everett Atkinson, retired farmer, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Meadow Manner Nursing Home in Taylorville. He was born in Taylorville August 1, 1922 the son of Charles and Mary Corzine Atkinson. He married Barbara Ann Shetlar August 7, 1948.
He attended Taylorville High School and graduated with the class of 1940. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he has served as deacon and elder. He lived on the family farm all of his life. He was a member of the Christian County Farm Bureau and past member of the board of directors. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and was cubmaster for Cub Pack 69.
He was Clerk of May Township for several years. He is survived by sons David (Cindy) Atkinson and Keith (Debbie) Atkinson of Taylorville, John of Mt. Vernon, WA, and daughter Ann (Noel) Brodsky of Champaign, IL. Grandchildren Seth, Sarah, Tristan, Nathan, and Rebekah Atkinson of Taylorville, Ariana, Serena, and Alyssa Brodsky of Champaign, and Matthew Atkinson serving in the U.S. Navy. Niece Mary Lou (Eddy) Poor and nephews Don (Judy) Atkinson of Taylorville and George Atkinson of Springfield, and sister-in-law Margie Dobson of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Donald, Robert, and Kenneth and special Aunt Lou Atkinson.
Visitation will be Monday, February 4, 2008 from 5:00 - 7:00PM at Shafer Funeral Home, Taylorville, Illinois. Funeral will be Tuesday, February 8, 2008 at 11:00 A .M.
at the First Presbyterian Church, Taylorville, Ill. with visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to service. Rev. Robert Spurgin will officiate, burial is at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, Illinois
