James L. Wilcoxon, 82, of Taylorville died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

He was born August 24, 1923, in Sherman, the son of Ralph Edward and Martha Boone Underwood Wilcoxon. He married Helen Humphrey on May 30, 1946, in Springfield. He was a farmer, an electrician for 28 years at Sangamo Electric Company in Springfield and an employee for 8 years at Dickey-John in Auburn. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Taylorville. He was a member of Christian County Farm Bureau, VFW, past member of Masonic Lodge #635 in Rochester, 4-H leader in Cotton Hill Township for 15 years and Township Clerk for Cotton Hill Township. He served in the U. S. Navy.

Surviving are his wife; sons: Mark Wilcoxon of San Diego, CA, and Art Wilcoxon of Salida, CO; daughters: Louise (husband Kent) Templin of Effingham and Laura Neal of Taylorville; grandchildren Tricia (husband Andreas) Schopf and Michelle (husband Carter) Schulze, both of Minneapolis, MN, Tara Templin of Honduras, Tracy Templin of Baltimore, MD, and Timothy Wilcoxon of San Diego, CA; brother, Nate (wife Carol) Wilcoxon of Rochester; and sister, Nettie Jean Edwards of Springfield; and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 31, in Shafer Funeral Home, with Pastor William Frazier officiating.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or American Parkinson Disease Association.
