John Junior Matheny

John Junior Matheny, 75, of Taylorville died at 10:05 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2007, in Memorial Medical Center. 

He was born January 3, 1932, in Taylorville, the son of John and Lula Shake Matheny. He married Myrna Scheel on August 7, 1954, in Taylorville. He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation, where he worked as a technician in the bridge office, after 36 years of service. He was a graduate of the U.S. Corps of Engineers. He enjoyed making statues out of pine and magnolia cones and working with sweetgum balls. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. 

Surviving are his wife; son, John (wife Bonnie) Matheny of Taylorville; daughters: Debra (husband Jim) Wenger of Largo, FL, and Susan (husband Greg) Wease of Scottville; grandchildren: Kayla, Miranda and Riley Matheny and Andrew Estell; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Danny Matheny. 

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, in Camp Butler National Cemetery, with Pastor Phillip Neumann officiating. 
There will be no visitation. Shafer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
