John M. McClure, 84, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 5:04 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

John was born October 30, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, the son of William Leuty and Laura M. (Beishline) McClure.  He married Nancy Everingham on August 3, 1958 in Fort Madison, IA, and they later divorced.  She survives him of Taylorville.

John graduated from Taylorville High School, and furthered his education at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.  He then proudly served our country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in South Korea.  After his time in the service, John owned and operated McClure-Halberg Insurance and Real Estate until his retirement in 2000.  He was a devoted member of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club, and in 2019 he was honored by the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District with the “Amador Award” for his many years of service.  John was also a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church, Christian County Shrine Club, the Scottish Rite, and a lifetime member of the Taylorville Masonic Lodge #122.  In his youth he had a passion for piloting airplanes, and in his later years he was able to pass along his love for the lake and boating to his children.

John is survived by his children, Dr. J. Miles McClure II of Saginaw, MI, Casey (wife, Toni) McClure of Taylorville, and Lynn (husband, Ron) Fleming of Taylorville; grandchildren, Abbey McClure, Carey McClure, Elizabeth McClure, and Jack McClure, all of Ohio, Adam (wife, Brittani) McClure of Taylorville, Alexander McClure of Florissant, MO, Alexis McClure of Taylorville, Carly Fleming of Kirkwood, MO, and Heath Fleming of Taylorville; great grandson, Ryen McClure; sister-in-law, Sheary McClure of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William L. McClure.

Private family ceremonies with military honors will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
