John R. Drake, age 69, of rural Pocahontas, IL passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 11:06 PM at his home. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, July 31, 2015 at 11 AM at Green Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 4-8 PM at Young Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the family John was born September 17, 1945 in rural Carlyle, IL to Verba H. and Irene M. (Gross) Drake. He married Glenna F. Black on June 7, 1969 in Edwardsville, IL. He is survived by his wife Glenna, his children Richard L. Drake of rural Pocahontas, Terri L. (Shane) Keller of rural Pocahontas, IL, Michael A. Drake of rural Pocahontas, Rebecca S. (Mike) Lenz of Florissant, MO and Tammy A. (John "JD") Wesselmann of rural Carlyle. He is also survived by six grandchildren Zach Lenz, Nathan Lenz, John David Wesselmann, Kelsie Wesselmann, Alexis Wesselmann, and Gabriel Keller along with three sisters Marie I. (Ted) Schrage of Pocahontas, Edith L. (Bob) Korte of Highland, and Mae L. (Jimmie) Kinnard of Pocahontas, IL. He was preceded death by his parents and a sister Doris I. Dannaman. He grew up in the Beaver Prairie area and graduated from Breese High School. He moved to The Millersburg area in 1973. He had worked at Broadway Tire and Battery in Highland. He had also worked construction and farmed. He worked for 30 years driving for Highland Redimix retiring in 2007. After his retirement he concentrated more on farming. He was a member of Alton Teamsters Local 525.

  6. This is heartbreaking again, to see and hear everything. John Drake, known to me as Grandpa, because he is my grandfather. I’m daughter of Michael Drake.. but I’m not good enough to be part of this family even tho grandpa was amazing to me, he’s everything and always will be. I miss him everyday, he was my world, there for me when my dad wasn’t.
