John William Loew, 85, of Mt. Olive died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at 4:19 p.m. at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton.

No services will be held. Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Loew was born on Aug. 6, 1928, in Walshville, the son of the late William Phillip and Pearl Louise (Keeling) Loew. He married Melvia Ellen Young on June 15, 1969,  in Belleville, and she survives in Mt. Olive.  

He worked in the brass mill at Olin Manufacturing in Alton, retiring on Dec. 31, 1993. He was a member of Kessinger American Legion Post 713, Litchfield Moose Lodge and the Masonic Lodge. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Loew is survived by a son, Phillip William (Amanda) Loew of Litchfield; daughters, Jonette (Matt) Bellovich of White City  and Alisa Loew of Mt. Olive; two grandchildren, Rikelle Taylor and Wyatt Loew; sisters, Norma Lawrence and Beulah Marsh, both of Litchfield, and Margaret (Robert) Clanton of Coffeen; sister-in-law, Melba Watson of Litchfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard, Richard and Wesley Loew; and sisters, Catherine Jurgena and Marie Strader.
