Joy F. Cruthis

Joy Francis Cruthis, 84 of Sorento passed away at 2:26 PM on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Hillsboro.

He was born on January 24, 1932 at Sorento the son of Elmer and Mary (Dove) Cruthis. He married Pearl Smith on June 12, 1955 at Sorento Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; Step Mother, Bonadell Cruthis; Brothers, Gerald and Clarence Cruthis; Infant Grandson, Tucker Cruthis; Nephew, Rodney Cruthis.

Joy was employed at General Steel in Granite City for 22 years before its closing. He then worked as assistant control operator at CIPS, retiring after 23 years of service. He was a 60 year member of Kessinger American Legion Post 713 where he assisted with BINGO for many years. He was Sorento Homecoming Parade Chairman for 20 years and was honored as its Parade Marshall. Joy was one of the founding members to preserve and prevent the demolition of Ripson Bridge and help form the Ripson Bridge Festival. He was a member of Sorento Assembly of God Church and a US Army veteran.

Survivors: Wife, Pearl Cruthis of Sorento, IL; Sons, Randy (wife, Stacey) Cruthis and Roger (wife, Gina) Cruthis both of Sorento, IL; Granddaughter, Sophie Cruthis; Step Grandchildren, Lauren Brewer, Sara Brewer and Samantha Brewer; Brother, Tim (wife, Carlene) Cruthis of Sorento, IL; Half Sister, Esther (husband, Billy) Varner of Sorento, IL; Step Sister, Dorine (husband, Allen) Price of Sorento, IL; Many Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Sorento Assembly of God Church with Rev. Cameron Lawrence officiating. Burial with military funeral honors will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00-7:00 PM at Perfetti Funeral Home in Sorento.

Memorials are suggested to Sunnyside Cemetery or Alzheimer's Association.
