Born in: Highland, Illinois
Resided in: Greenville , Illinois

Joyce Ann Skinner, aged 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 8, 2026. Born on July 3, 1931, in Highland, Illinois, she was the cherished daughter of Faye (Wall) Redding and Doris “Rusty” Redding, both of whom predeceased her.

Joyce married her beloved husband, Wayne Hamilton Skinner, on July 24, 1953, celebrating almost 65 wonderful years together before he passed in 2018. Together, they raised two daughters, Cynthia Rice of Vandalia, IL, and Charlotte Eckart of Houston, TX.

Joyce was a graduate of Greenville College, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She devoted her career to nurturing young minds as a first grade and special education teacher in Greenville, IL. Her influence extended beyond the classroom, as she became a beacon of inspiration and guidance for countless students.

Joyce’s faith was an integral part of her life. As an active member of The United Methodist Church and The Order of the Eastern Star, she found fulfillment in serving her community. Her love for music led her to play the piano and direct the church choir in both Greenville and Pocahontas, where her harmonious spirit touched many hearts.

Outside of her professional and spiritual commitments, Joyce indulged in her passion for quilting, creating beautiful pieces that warmed her loved ones’ lives. She was also known for her incredible baking skills, particularly her homemade bread, which she lovingly taught her grandchildren to make. Her home was often filled with the aroma of fresh bread and the joyful sounds of family gatherings. Her warm smile and welcoming personality made her the natural host of Sunday dinners and family holidays, where she cherished the company of her family and friends.

Joyce’s legacy extends through her 15 great-great-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven grandchildren: Travis (Amanda) Thacker of Blooming Prairie, MN; Heather Lovatto of Springfield, IL; Charles (Courtney) Thacker of Enderlin, ND; Courtney Ashlock of Denver, CO; April Kunkel of Houston, TX; Nicholas Roesselet of Pearland, TX; and Sabrina Roesselet of Houston, TX.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Light a CandleMay your light continue to shine in heaven. You made ticking the ivies sound amazing.Keep your heart huge, your finger crooked and your legacy one to remember.

  2. Light a CandleWe rode many miles with Wayne and after he passed Joyce came to camp to eat mushrooms! We’ve kept in touch occasionally throughout Facebook . I can imagine her and Wayne smiling ear to ear. My husband Dennis still wears his duster he got from Wayne. Love our memories!

  3. To Joyce’s Family: Oh my goodness! I didn’t realize Rusty Redding was Joyce’s father — he was my bus driver at Inglis School taking us to lunch everyday to the Jr. High during the late 1950’s — all the kids, myself included, adored him! I never had Joyce as a teacher, but everyone knew her at the schools. Job well done, Joyce!

  4. Light a CandleIt was a joy, a shift I always looked forward to knowing that my day would start off with a sweet smile and hand wave from Joyce as I walked the hall to the nursing station. She was an absolute blessing to have here and could always count on sincere words and a loving heart.
She will always have a place in my heart

  5. Light a CandleJoyce and her husband Wayne will always be in our families hearts! They were always so sweet and invited our young sons to come to their farm and hunt with Wayne. Joyce would feed them and was so caring to all of us. Those memories our boys still talk about. I had the privilege of working at school with Joyce and saw the love and care she gave to her students teaching them to read and learn was a privilege to see. She is truly an angel happy to be together again with Wayne. Gods blessings to her family. We will always love and miss them both Shari and Gary Self and sons.
