Joyce Ann Skinner, aged 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 8, 2026. Born on July 3, 1931, in Highland, Illinois, she was the cherished daughter of Faye (Wall) Redding and Doris “Rusty” Redding, both of whom predeceased her.
Joyce married her beloved husband, Wayne Hamilton Skinner, on July 24, 1953, celebrating almost 65 wonderful years together before he passed in 2018. Together, they raised two daughters, Cynthia Rice of Vandalia, IL, and Charlotte Eckart of Houston, TX.
Joyce was a graduate of Greenville College, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She devoted her career to nurturing young minds as a first grade and special education teacher in Greenville, IL. Her influence extended beyond the classroom, as she became a beacon of inspiration and guidance for countless students.
Joyce’s faith was an integral part of her life. As an active member of The United Methodist Church and The Order of the Eastern Star, she found fulfillment in serving her community. Her love for music led her to play the piano and direct the church choir in both Greenville and Pocahontas, where her harmonious spirit touched many hearts.
Outside of her professional and spiritual commitments, Joyce indulged in her passion for quilting, creating beautiful pieces that warmed her loved ones’ lives. She was also known for her incredible baking skills, particularly her homemade bread, which she lovingly taught her grandchildren to make. Her home was often filled with the aroma of fresh bread and the joyful sounds of family gatherings. Her warm smile and welcoming personality made her the natural host of Sunday dinners and family holidays, where she cherished the company of her family and friends.
Joyce’s legacy extends through her 15 great-great-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven grandchildren: Travis (Amanda) Thacker of Blooming Prairie, MN; Heather Lovatto of Springfield, IL; Charles (Courtney) Thacker of Enderlin, ND; Courtney Ashlock of Denver, CO; April Kunkel of Houston, TX; Nicholas Roesselet of Pearland, TX; and Sabrina Roesselet of Houston, TX.

What a bright, shining light Joyce was to so many young schoolchildren along with her dear family.

Fond memories of a wonderful teacher.
To Joyce’s Family: Oh my goodness! I didn’t realize Rusty Redding was Joyce’s father — he was my bus driver at Inglis School taking us to lunch everyday to the Jr. High during the late 1950’s — all the kids, myself included, adored him! I never had Joyce as a teacher, but everyone knew her at the schools. Job well done, Joyce!
She will always have a place in my heart
Joyce was the epitome of hospitality, showing live to all. We will miss her tremendously.
