Juanita A. (Bone) Zeller, 66, of Sorento, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at her residence.

Juanita was born November 28, 1956, in Litchfield, the daughter of Robert Leroy and Mary Hannah (Schoeneweis) Bone.  She married John Zeller on June 12, 1976, at the Assembly of God in Sorento, and they later divorced.

Juanita graduated from Greenville High School with the Class of 1975 and went on to attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale to study photography.  She then graduated from Allied Medical College for Nursing.  Juanita worked as a nurse for the American Red Cross, Hillsboro Hospital, and Christian Hospital, before retiring as a school bus driver for Bond County Community School District #2 after over 20 years of service.  After retiring she drove another two years for Cavallo and began studying at Kaskaskia College to earn her LPN certificate.  Juanita enjoyed photography and cooking, but most of all she loved taking care of her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Juanita is survived by her daughters, Joni Zeller of Greenville and Nina (husband, Paul “Tygur”) Whiteside, Jr. of Sorento; grandchildren, Edward Zeller of Sorento, Katie (husband, Austin) Garcia of Greenville, and Dean Whiteside of Sorento; siblings, Mary Jo Bone of Panama, Patricia (Tony) Rapien of Sorento, Barbara Earnest of Sorento, Terry (Cheryl) Bone of Sorento, Robert (Jacqueline) Bone of Panama, Robin Bone of Sorento, and Willis (Bunny) Bone of Sorento; stepmother, Patty Jo Bone of Sorento; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Juanita will be cremated, and the family will host a celebration of life luncheon beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Sorento Municipal Building, 105 E. Taylor Street, Sorento, IL 62086.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the donor’s choosing.

The family has entrusted Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Sorento with arrangements.

  2. Light a CandleJuanita was my best friend since 1970. She was so funny. Laughed at everything! Couldn’t ask for a better friend as her. Never gossip about anyone!! Hard worker, as at home or nursing school, bus driver. She did it all with Pride!! She will be missed by EVERYONE!! She just wasn’t a friend she was more like a Sister by another mother!!! Very Heartbroken 😢 Fly hi Neat!! I am sure you will have beautiful wings and you didn’t have to make them yourself out of scrap!! Lol

Light a CandleJuanita was my best friend growing up from the time we were little children clear through adult hood although I didn’t get to see her much she was always there for me taking me back and forth to St Louis after my accident in 1998. I don’t know what I would have done without her and she also done my wedding pictures and done a beautiful job. I loved her so much and I will miss her! Fly high with the angels Juanita until we meet again rest in peace my dear friend!
