Lillian Singer

Lillian L. Galbraith Singer, age 73, of Greenville, formerly of Granite City, passed away at 6:27 p.m., on Monday, March 16, 2009, at her residence.

She was born on May 31, 1935, at Napton, Mo., the daughter of the late Arnett and Berkie Irene Applegate Morelan. She married Robert Galbraith Sr., on June 12, 1953, in Mount Vernon; he preceded her in death. She later married Fred Singer in 1966, in Granite City; he also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Singer graduated from Salem High School in 1953. She worked as a laborer for the Army Depot in Granite City and sold insurance for many years. She was very active in her children’s school and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1972. In her latter years, her passion was buying and selling antiques. Prior to moving to the Greenville area to be near her daughter, Mrs. Singer lived in Texas, Indiana, and Missouri before settling in Granite City.

Survivors are sons: Robert “Bob� Galbraith Jr. of Granite City, Ron, and wife Pat, Galbraith of Granite City and Rick, and wife Kathy, Galbraith of Edwardsville; daughters: Alesia Galbraith Volentine and husband Gerald, of Sorento, Cindy Mahoney and husband Trev, of Goodyear, Ariz., and Missy Cox of Goodyear, Ariz., formerly of Granite City; 14 grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother: Charlie, and wife Darlana, Morelan of St. Louis, Mo.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, April 4, at 11 a.m., at City Temple Assembly of God Church in Granite City, with Pastor Trev Mahoney officiating. In memory of Lillian Singer, memorials may be made to the Singer family to be used for a charity of their choice.
