Lucy Bland

Lucy Hubbard Bland, 97. of Taylorville passed away at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 18. 2008.

She was born September 29, 1910, in Macon, Mississippi, to Horace and Velma Hubbard. She was married in Holy Matrimony to Taylor Bland. Lucy moved from Macon, Mississippi to Taylorville in 1939. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was employed by the Large family and was a diligent worker until her retirement. Lucy confessed her hope in Christ at an early age. She was a dutiful member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church. She was a Stewardess in the church and later consecrated a Deaconess. Lucy was a faithful member of Allen Chapel, who loved Sunday School and Bible Study and attended regularly before her health failed. She always displayed a gentle, quiet spirit and was kind to everyone around her. Lucy loved the Lord, her family and church family very much and will be greatly missed. 

Surviving are her daughter, Rev. Tiney Walker and husband Willie Walker, Sr.; son, Taylor Bland, Jr. and wife Rev. Youvette Bland; grandsons: Willie Walker, Jr., Robert Walker, Dennis (Mary) Walker, and Mark (Sonya) Walker; granddaughter, Mikell (Lonnie) Bland Hayes; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and oldest son, Andrew Bland. 

Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, at 11:00 a.m. in the A.M.E. Church, Taylorville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
