Mary E. (Thompson) Passoni Zueck, 97, of Taylorville, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at her residence.

Mary was born on January 31, 1926, in Danville, the daughter of Rufus Edward and Esther Irene (Tanner) Thompson.  On August 31, 1946, she married Armando “Nidge” Passoni.  He passed away on October 3, 1984. On March 13, 1999, she married Charles “Butch” Zueck. He passed away on January 6, 2006.

Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, a life member of the VFW Auxiliary where she served as Post and District President, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Taylorville Hospital Auxiliary and Senior Citizens of Christian County.  She worked as a phone operator at the local phone company, Craftlines, and retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and the Christian County Clinic.

Mary is survived by her sons, Terry (Mary Chesney) Passoni and David (Rebecca) Passoni, both of Taylorville; daughter, Mary Esther (Charles) Giles of Tell City, IN; grandchildren, Timothy (Dacia Nesbit) Passoni of Normal, IL, Carmen (Mathew) Blomquist, of Taylorville, and Tanner Giles and Meghan Giles, both of Tell City, IN; sister, Alta Bozsok Bates Mundhenke of Taylorville; 13 great grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters, Alma Thompson and Helen Thompson Wittenburg; and brothers, Harold Thompson and Joseph Bozsok.

Visitation & Funeral Mass: The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 108 W. Adams Street, Taylorville, IL 62568, with Rev. Piotr Kosk officiating.

Interment will follow the funeral mass at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary’s memory are suggested to: St. Mary School, VFW Post #4495, or the American Cancer Society.

The family has entrusted Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville with ceremonies.
