Melvin A. Varner, 78, of Hillsboro, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Melvin was born November 26, 1943, in Hillsboro, the son of Alvin Andrew and Lora (Ingles) Varner.  He lived north of Sorento, on the Varner farm, with his parents, where he helped his father farm, until they moved to Litchfield. After moving, Melvin worked for the garage in Litchfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ronald Lee Varner.

Melvin is survived by his nieces and nephews, Valena (William) Bone of Smithboro, Frank (Rochelle) Varner of Highland, Annette (Chris) Poteet of Midlothian, TX, Clinton Varner of IN, Rhonda (Brian) Gregory of Hendersonville, TN; several great nieces and great nephews; and special friend, Phyllis Hammond of Litchfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 201 S. Main Street, Sorento, IL 62086 with Rev. Roy Eller officiating.  

Interment will follow the ceremony at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.
