With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Krummel, who left this world on December 9th, 2024, at the age of 40, at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois.
Born April 4, 1984, in Breese, Illinois to John Paul Krummel, Sr. and Sandra Cunningham, Michael grew up in Bond County, attending school in Mulberry Grove. He went on to work a variety of jobs after high school, with the most recent being a tree trimmer. Michael was a small-town boy with a big heart and an even bigger smile. Known for his respectful and well-mannered nature, he carried a mischievous streak that kept everyone laughing and on their toes.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: casting a fishing line, revving the engine of a fast car, or squealing tires just for fun. A bit of a homebody at heart, he loved family time, especially spent enjoying good food and better company. Michael enjoyed action and animated movies, a reflection of his adventurous yet playful spirit. Music was a constant in Michael’s life. While he appreciated all genres, The Mirror by Kid Rock was one of his favorites. Like most rock fans, he found comfort and connection in music’s power.
He wore his heart on his sleeve, always quick to lend a helping hand and ensure those around him felt cared for. Whether tackling a random task for a friend or simply offering a smile that lit up the room, Michael was a man who truly looked out for others. He hated seeing anyone upset and would go out of his way to brighten their day. Above all, Michael loved his family and friends. His kids and step-kids were the light of his life, and he treasured his loyal dogs, Cora and Lanny, who were his constant companions.
Michael was best known for “bein’ Michael Krummel”—a man with a huge personality, a loving soul, and a smile that could brighten the darkest day. His passing leaves a void that will never be filled, but his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a future date.
The family has entrusted Assalley Funeral Home in Greenville with the arrangements.
